KTA steering gears

I had a problem with my steering when
turning to the left. It occasionally would
hit a snag which required me to turn the
wheel to right and go back then to the
left.
So while I have my gas tank and saddle
bracket off of the tractor for rehab I
pulled the column and worm gear unit out
to inspect. Nothing real obvious wrong.
But..... I did notice that if the worm
gear was allowed to move inward it would
bind. So I believe I found my problem and
will attach the drag link arm tighter to
the gear cover when reassembling. There
was a 1/4 inch of horizontal movement
there prior to removal.

Did you also find some nicer sector teeth to use? That is, IF the teeth are worn where it was.
May be due to whatever, the teeth on top look worn in the in-place pic.

Actually the teeth look good all around
but I do plan to rotate it 180 degrees.
I'm glad to see they used a full gear so
that can be done.
Many smart engineering features on this
tractor considering it was from the 1930s.
