MH55 gas engine color.

Was reading through some of my my Massey Harris books and magazines and I couldnt find what year or years the engines in some Massey Harris tractors where painted copper color. How many years and what models where done that way ?? Thanks in advance.

Only the triple series had the bronze engine color. Most two digit models have engine same color as the tractor frame. The 1947 first year 44 and 55 engine were black.

the 55 is all red. the next series 444 and 555 had the gold engines. what model is that one by serial number?

has it ever been painted. bronze was the word i was looking for when i said gold. i am quite sure in 53 nothing was bronze

Im not sure if its been repainted or not. Its the next project coming into to garage. Ill check it out when I get it in the shop to see if I can figure it out. Pretty sure the hood panel and fenders have not been repainted.

saying this cause it looks that way to me as it does not have the crome on the grill either. but that engine and back appears installed. ??

Thanks Dieseltech. How long where the engines painted black. I have a 1946 55 that the engine is or has some red on it. And rust of course.

No you cant quit looking stevieb. Still need a diesel and a propane model. The 46 is a family tractor and the western is a local tractor that I picked up a year ago. Still on the hunt for more Massey Harris tractors for sure.

You mention below that you're looking for a diesel to add to your collection. Where abouts are you? I have a diesel 555 I'm looking to part with come spring.

1946 and 1947 were black. The 1947 should have a small 150th anniversary decal above the grille
The intake stack was bronze on all triple series and red on the others except for the 46 and 47 which were black

Hmmm....I'm in southern Ontario as well....have had 5 different 55s over the years, even one with a Detroit diesel transplant. How much for your Massey? Thanks,
Ben

I haven't yet given much thought to a price, but I'll do some pondering on it I've been admiring your 55's over the years - especially the one with the 3-71 you posted a picture of a while ago.

That one looks like it has the hydraulic reservoir in the upper part of the grille. One of my 55s had that as well. Was that style only on the 55s and all others have a tank in front of the grille?
