MF 20 Power Steering Hyd Oil in Crankcase

Hi all. A while back I was discussing my power steering losing fluid and I thought it was leaking through the bottom steering column valve into the tranny. I have to add about 4 ounces of oil back into the pump each time I use the tractor. It turns out it s actually leaking into the crank case. My tractor has a Perkins diesel and I will be looking into replacing the pump, but in the meantime how bad of an issue is having hydraulic oil in the engine? I will drain some of the oil back out so it s back in the normal range on the dipstick. Do I need to do anything else like adding SAE 10W-30 oil, etc.?

PS: The power steering fluid I am using now is Tractor Supply Travelers Universal Transmission & Hydraulic Oil (10W 30 premium mineral oil)

Tractor SN 9A239989

Pump looks to be PN 888744M93 (per AGCO) can also be 518369M93 (per AGCO Drawings) or 773126M91 / 773126M92 from online sources.

Thanks,
Doug

Probably didn't hurt the engine, but I
would change the engine oil and filter or
at least drain the oil from the filter
depending on hours on filter. May not
have to replace the power steering pump,
may have only replace the seal.

I thought about just changing the seal but some other posters previously wrote that once the seal goes that the pump bearings are probably getting bad and a new seal won t last. The seal for for this pump on AGCO looks to be PN 1751651M1. Have you or anyone you know successfully replace the seal on this model of pump? And if so is it very hard to change the seal once you have the pump pulled off the tractor?

Thanks,
Doug

I have run 15-40 Rotella in my pumps for years. I have never replaced a seal however, looking at the pump I changed out last summers it doesn't look like too bad of a job.

Since the seal is only about $7 and the new pump is around $140 unless I find some other damage in the pump I think I will just try replacing the seal first to see how that works. I do have the shop manual which goes over the pump rebuild and includes photos of the process. If anyone has replaced a seal on one of these Barnes type pumps and could share their experience I would appreciate it. In the meantime I have drained down the excess oil in the crank case to normal level and will run it like that until the pump repair. The tractor only gets used a little right now for snow removal and I don t want to change oil and filter until the leak is fixed. In the mean time I ll add some STP or some other additive to the oil so it has some detergent, etc.

Thanks, Doug
