Getting ready to start working on a Massey Harris 444 gas tractor. The tractor has been in storage for a
very long time both inside and in a field. Considering its age it looks pretty good.
Would like to determine if the engine is stuck. Not sure how to go about this on this tractor. Usually
I put a socket on the nut on the drive pulley and start pulling. I cannot do this on this tractor
because there is a hydralic pump that is right in front on the crankshaft oulley only about half an inch
from it. It is interesting that the nut on the pulley has ears for a cranck. However; there is no acess
hole through the front sheet metal to insert a crack. What would be the best way to put pressure on the
engine to see if it will turn over ?
I have the rear off the ground. I can easily turn both wheels by hand with the clutch ingaged, the
transmission in 5th gear and the slitter in high range. When I turn either wheel the opposite wheel
turns free in the opposie direction. Have tried pulling on the fan blade fairly lightly and nothing
moves. Have not pulled real hard for fear on damaging something.
Would appreciate any help you can give to see if the engine is stuck.
Thank You !
