4020 steering stuck

Hello. I'm helping my neighbor breath life
back into his 4020 that his Dad bought new
in 1965? Serial number is:SNT213R093831R
Not sure what all that serial number means
but I believe it tells me at least that
it's a 1965 maybe? Tractor hasn't been run
for a long time. Trying to get the
steering freed up. Steering wheel would
not move at all when I first started. Now
2 weeks later after spraying penetration
oil and trying to get steering wheel to
move, it broke loose and will steer right
but after center still can't get to move
to the left. Any ideals how to get it
steering to the left? Kinda worried about
putting to much pressure on steering
wheel. Don't want to do more damage than
good.
Thanks
Scotty

I agree with Bob, pull it and send it to Tim. He does good work at a fair price and will help you with any questions you may have.

You most likely have more than one problem going. You may have an O ring issue in the steering motor. I replaced the O rings in the steering motor on my 4010 after having similar problems as yours. It steered fine after that. The worst part of the job was getting the motor out and having to jockey the WFE axle back up by myself. Probably could not do that by myself today.

It sounds like I'm gonna need more pb blaster to get the steering motor off.
Thank you

Thanks. The steering seems to be froze up in the steering column. Tractor sat long time with the steering shaft top bearing exposed to the weather. The bearing was froze up but kept hitting it with pb blaster and worked it loose. Now it will turn to the right and back to center but after center will not turn left. And it seems pretty solid and stops at center like I'm hitting maybe another stuck bearing or rusty gear or maybe something broke. Gonna give it another try today. Let you know what I find.

I have had some that the steering shaft rusted fast in the upper column,,had to press them out,,and usually had to replace the shaft and bushing. I would be glad to go through it for you and bench test it here .... [email protected]
