2010 Power Steering Issue

I have a 2010 industrial and my power steering stopped working. I'm trying to figure the best way to troubleshoot it. I figured I would check the operation of the pump first but the method in the service manual is confusing. It says I can check the operation of the relief valve with a pressure gauge and restricting valve but I'm not sure what a restricting valve is. The manual also says to test the pump operation by measuring the time to move a remote cylinder- which I don't have. Any thoughts on troubleshooting would be appreciated. Thanks!

Did this happen suddenly/all at once, or did P.S. get weaker over time?

The 2010's that I am familiar with have a hydraulic pump located inside the back of the flywheel housing with a glow divider that feeds the power steering.

Is that the way your ''industrial'' 2010 is set up?

If it happened suddenly, there's a little pump disconnect lever down below and ahead of the clutch pedal that could possibly get kicked out of place and disconnect the drive to the hydraulic pump.

Or the splines in the pressure plate that supply the ''live'' power to the hydraulic pump may have stripped or the drive hub may have come loose.

My tractor does not have a 3 point hitch, remote couplers, or a PTO. I split the tractor about 20 years ago and if I remember correctly the pump doesn't have the disconnect coupling. In any case, it gradually got worse over the course of a few hours. It will actually turn [u:a9a9d2a18d]very[/u:a9a9d2a18d] slowly if you lightly turn the wheel. The steering gear whines if I do this. It behaves like this when turning in either direction.

I also have a 2010 a industrial with not the greatest power steering, if you turn it slow your fine, looking forward to responds. Better 2010 s than mine have wound up in the scrap yard. One winter it would now steer at all, frozen water in the front steering cylinder. Still is useful so it lives under cover now.

Its been about 10 hours since I replaced the transmission fluid, the HLR filter and cleaned the screen. It cant hurt to pull it out and take a look. I will do that.

Look VERY closely at the screen, it is made of very fine mesh and hard to get clean.

Put a light inside it and look through the mesh at the light.

I have changed my fluid twice and cleaned the filter. Yes the filter can be hard to clean, I had to use gas and a scrub brush. None of this headed the power steering. Am I correct to assume that the only job of the internal pump is the power steering for this type of setup? The loader and hoe work off the front pump and side reservoir.
Thanks

I pulled it out and it was clean. I could see light through it and at the right angle I could actually see through the mesh. One thing I did notice is that the seal on the back end was pushed out on one side which makes me worry that something could have snuck through and into the pump. I guess I'm back to trying to figure out how to pressure test the pump.

''Am I correct to assume that the only job of the internal pump is the power steering for this type of setup?''

The internal pump supplies transmission lube oil and the 3-point hitch and hydraulic remotes, as well as the power steering.

Power steering oil is split off from the main flow by a flow divider in the pump.

hen you think it's clean pour fluid in to see how fast it comes out. If it's slow to come out it isn't clean..

After reinstalling my mesh filter my PS is now back. I guess when I did all the flow tests with gas and water it cleaned something out.

To Daniel in PA: I thought mine was clean but it apparently wasn't. You should pull yours again and make sure it flows cleanly with gas and water. Before I put mine back in I could see through the mesh.

Thanks to all for the help!
