4440 6 Volt Batteries

I need new batteries for my 4440 and it still has two six volt batteries. I want keep it original and not switch to the parallel twelve volt option. I know it is probably better for cold weather, but I live in middle Georgia. Do you have any recommendations/vendors for the best 6 volt batteries. The current ones are 1000 CCA, but I do not know where they came from. Thanks

First you need to measure the batteries to make sure you get the correct BCI # batteries which will fit into the spaces.
BCI specs are online and are specific for voltage and dimensions.
I've had good luck with Interstate batteries.

JD Dave is correct, you want to know the BCI, which indicates not only the dimensions of the battery but other features such a post location, venting requirements and so on.

As for brand, batteries of a certain BCI and cold cranking amperage are pretty much identical, there are only a few places that make them and they put different brand labels on them. There may be minor differences in construction, but there is only so much you can do with a battery of the same BCI and CCA in regard to performance and durability. So why is one battery more expensive than the other? That pretty much comes down to warranty, you are largely paying for better warranty coverage. By and large, most batteries all last around the same amount of time with good care and similar use. Letting them go dead for an extended period of time or being dead when they can freeze are the major causes premature battery failure. Of course, there is the occasional defective one, but that usually shows up pretty quickly. Personally, I just get the most reasonably priced batteries at a fleet store, take care of them and I get by fine. Maintaining charge and keeping clean posts and connections goes a long way.

As far as CCA goes, for your area you don't need it for cold weather starting, but a high CCA also gives you a longer cranking time in warmer weather. So if your tractor needs to crank a bit to get started, that may be something you might want to consider.

NoDakInMN, Thank you for the comprehensive explanation and tips on battery life. This should help many people later. And thanks for your time.
