John Deere B Timing question

I bought a mag for my JD B and was going to retime the cam and gov to mount the mag to test for spark. It's pretty much stripped down to the frame, with the crank and cam shaft the only remaining engine parts installed. My plan was to retime the cam because its off, then to retime/reinstall the gov. I know I don't really need to retime, but this is my first restoration/overhaul so I thought some practice wouldn't hurt anything, right? Anyway I can't seem to make the cam timing match the service manual instructions. And I can't even make the governor go back into it's housing much less retime it. I admit that I'm [i:f6dc45470a]very[/i:f6dc45470a] inexperienced. Any suggestions, anything at all? Thank You in advance

I am not ashamed to admit that I have to rely on google for info on many things like fixing my wife's dishwasher for example. There is almost always a video to provide instruction on most things these days. Check below for a start and keep in mind I have not looked at any of them and have no ties period.

Unsure on a styled one like you might have but my 1938 and
36 both have nice big timing marks on the flywheel that you
line up at the correct mark and align everything up all the way through to the magneto.
Deere service manual sm-2004 will tell you everything you
ever wanted to know about a 1943 B. If you are to that point
its probably worth the investment.
