Bent disc shaft

I have an unknown disc set 3 pt hitch , no markings that I can find to ID them, one side the disc shafts are bent and the discs are digging into the frame , wanted to know if the shafts are universal or does this have to be the brand of machinery I will sent pics of them , thank you for any advice

Chris - I was pulling a Kewanee disk with my little dozer - after dark - when I turned sharp and the disk wagged its tail and hooked a small tree with the rear gang. The dozer didn't even notice and I bent the shaft at about a 45 degree angle. I took the bent gang all apart and managed to heat it and straighten it to make it usable again. That was 30 some years ago and I still use the disk. No wobble on the previously bent shaft.

Just offering this idea for encouragement.

Take lots of pictures before you take it apart to straighten. Helps on re-assembly with all the parts scattered about. Maybe even paint two lines two colors 90 degrees apart on the pieces.

Looks like a light duty disc for occasional work. I would just lay it on a heavy support and straighten with a heavy sledge. You should not need heat if not bent near the end. Been there done that.

I'm with the straighten it crowd. I've done it several times on disc shafts. Works fine either a press or just laid on a straigh iron and a sledge. Heat will help with the straightening better. or put a shim under the sahft near the bend so it can move slightly past straight to be straight when done.

Most disk shafts are heat treated hardened, perhaps a light duty like that is not.

It would affect how to straighten it I guess, knowing if it were hardened or not.

Take the big nut loose/off first thing before removing gang from the disk. Otherwise it is requires two large wrenches and second wrench and that might not work as everything gets loose

I think these axles are called arbour bolts . Most are square, but I have seen round ones on old horse drawn equipment. Over the years I have broken a few, and replaced them with new. Not very expensive parts really, and most equipment dealers can get brand new aftermarket parts for your disc, bearings, spacers, disc blades and arbor bolts, for most any make. If trying to straighten it doesnt work, take it with you to a dealer and see if the parts guy can match it up.

Dearborb used the round on their Dearborn tractor brand disks. Had one when I moved off farm. Ford brand might have kept the round axles.

If I was to guess I'd say the disc is a Pittsburg. I'd try to straighten the shaft first, in a press as has been suggested. If it's beyond repair, get the length on it and the size... and Shoup will probably have one that will fit. Gang bolts are not that hard to find.
