Around here you can buy an extremely nice Cub Cadet of that era for $500 and price goes down substantially when in lessor condition visually or mechanicaly.

I got $850 for mine that was a basket case, all kinds of prior owner installed duct tape repairs. I put all 4 newer but used tires on it, recovered seat and a nice rattle can paint job and rebuilt the 12 hp Kohler. The hydro Trans was fine, just drained, flushed and replaced the Hy-Tran with a new filter, think I rebuilt the pto clutch. The OEM gas tank was long gone and a replacement was installed with hose clamps. I BUILT a new 2 gallon tank for where the battery normally went on older Cubbies under the hood.
129 was my favorite mowing tractor until I got my 982. 982 does everything good but I REALLY hate that piece of junk Onan engine, a new set of points and condensor every 50 hours was $164 from Cummins. SO I parked it. My new Cub Cadet LZ54 Tank commercial zero turn hasn't needed anything repaired or new in 10 years and 325 running hours.
