Oil for Briggs 20 hp

Recently there was a thread on Tractor talk about a bent pushrod on a Kawasaki, and I though I would ask for an opinion here. We have a Husqvarna with a Kawasaki that's been bulletproof for 21 years, and I use 10w30 automotive oil. Now our primary mower is a JD with a Briggs, and the book says I can use 15-40 in it, so I'm using Delvac, same as I use in my bigger tractors. Any comments?

IM not familiar with Delvac.

All the small engine manufacturers recommend an intended for small engine oil for their mowers. Partially because they still have zinc in them and the camshafts like it and also they say their oil is formulated for an additional 100 degrees temperature over what would be required in a water cooled gas engine.

If it was in our shop, we would use Kohler or Kawasaki 30 wt. But we are in NC and it rarely gets below 20 degrees in the Winter.

Delvac is best know as a diesel engie oil, so therefore it has zink, makes it well suited for lawn tractors. We don't use the mowers when it's below about 45 degrees

Rotella and Castrol both make 15w40 gas engine oil.

A lot of people here uses Rotella in their SxS that doesn't have wet clutches.
