The original subject was Air cleaner, half the price, same store.

Yes, I use to wash out with soapy water, let dry, lightly oil it, the filter and that traps dirt even worse
and makes a clog or deteriorates the paper and then have a hole. Theories change over time.
Not any more. New x590 John Deere say to put on dry. The oil soaks into the paper and that not
good.
They say not to blow out with air compressor. Too powerful on paper. Might just tap it on
something.
All of this filter $tuff seems to get into our pockets. Car cabin filters .same deal. Keep screwing
that consumer! Too costly. Try Amazon.

Happened again about a month later at the same store. $22 idler pulley in the mower section. A better one for $8 less found in the farm section.

Yes, similar thing: idler pulley for mower deck on older cub cadet at dealer is 24$. Amazon was
$9.97 about. Same pulley same quality, same
Local businesses complain about Amazon underpricing them, but look how they are doing a local
walk-in customer. They shoot themselves in the foot!
Air filters for small engines and cabin filters for cars. Here is another overpriced racket.
Just keep ripping off the consumer!
Similar incident: had to replace electrical entrance box in a farmhouse. Windstorm tore down cable
and ripped it off side of house. Contractor couldnt get cable out of main breaker. Set screws
corroded. On lunch break one of the workers went to Menards and bought new panel box for 68$ he
said. Charged me 240$ for it on my bill! Later, I salvaged that box. Soaked set screws with
penetrating oil. Out they came! I got soaked too!

he only kind of air filter I've ever heard of oiling was K&N, and they're made from gauze not paper. What kind of oil would someone use?
