JD 318 with JD #44 loader-- loader won't lift

My JD 318 has been sitting for a few weeks now. Today I started it so I could move some snow. When I tried to lift the loader bucket I
got a sound that I think was the pressure relief valve bypassing oil and it slowed the engine down. The loader bucket was apparently
frozen down as it didn't raise. Now when I try to lift the bucket it doesn't load the engine down when I operate the bucket lift or try
to tip the bucket. The pump clutch is engaging and I am sure it is pumping. Everything was working when I parked it. The bucket is no
longer frozen down. I'm guessing the relief valve is stuck open or has a broken spring. The air temperature was about 20 degrees F.

Can't help you with the repair other than it sounds like it could also be a sheared key or bolt. Once it is repaired, if you have to keep it outside, park it with the bucket on a 4x4. Last winter I had to store my BX25DLB under my lean to and it would have frozen down regularly without it. This year it is indoor and we've barely had snow or freezing weather. What did you end up doing for a block heater?

The side panels were in a pile of parts when I bought the tractor. I haven't put them back on yet so I shined a couple of heat lamps on the engine. The battery is weak so I had to use a booster on it. It's also the wrong battery (too small). I will wait to buy a new battery. I need to see if the tractor is worth keeping before I spend a lot of money on it. It has had a hard life. The tiller that came with it has badly worn tines and a broken PTO shaft. The steering has about 2/3 of a turn of play in the steering wheel. Also the charging light was flashing intermittently when I had it running. At least I now have factory manuals for it.
