Briggs starter

Hi Guys.. I have a leaf blower with a 195422 [1169 01] 8 hp Briggs I/C engine. Needless to say, it's a bugger to start. I find at 71 years young, I don't have the steam to pull start this engine with the big blower wheel on it. I'd like to install a flywheel, 110 volt starter to get it running. Any ideas what engine would use this combination ? Thanks for all the previous help. R.S.

My guess would be to look at real old snow blowers with Briggs 195XXX. Old small riding mowers used same engine with 12 volt.

Sorry I can't answer your question, but if you can stuff a Predator 420 in there you'd have an electric start engine with 60% more power for under $400.

In the mid 60s Sears sold mowers with a handle you could either twist or ratchet to load a spring then hit another handle to release spring which turned engine over. It was an easy way to start engines that went away after only a couple of years. I'm surprised it didn't become common or that something similar hasn't been offered.

Take a good look your flywheel may have a ring gear on it already. Even if you can find a 12V starter, you can jump it from a battery or your car and you won't need a battery.

Thanks 504, When the weather breaks, I'll check it out. Right now I'm fixing snowblowers. A never ending chore.

This B&S webpage lets you look up parts for your 195422-1169-01 engine. https://shop.briggsandstratton.com/pages/parts-lookup#

Part #76 is a flywheel with ring gear. But some were built w/o.
The screen will also show starter used and other needed parts.

You might remove the pull start assembly and see if there is a hex hole inline with crank centerline.
Then search for a hand held electric starter for small engine.
There are 120v plug in starters as well as drill motor adapters.

I have that engine on my DR blower. I bought it with electric start but when the little battery crashed and I saw the price of a new one and started hand cranking. It has the cranking pressure release on the cam shaft and extra large diameter rope holder, both making for easy starting. You might run some Sea Foam through it with new spark plug, oil and filter.10W-30....or 5W-30...makes no consumption difference in my small engines, air filter and put premium gas in it..my little engines start much faster with 91-93 octane fuel. I'm 81.
