Yesterday as I was bushcutting , all at once , RPM went high , lost power & heavy black smoke from exhaust. I found the only way to bring RPM,s down was to pull out a bit on the engine stop cable. Doing that , I was able to limp back up out of woods to the shop . Long story short , I found the governor diaphragm has burst. Not a bad job to replace the diaphragm , except for no access to lower inside bolt. Finally got it using a shallow 1/4 inch drive socket with a 6 inch flex extension. Diaphragm must have been leaking some for a while , because the governor is stronger now with new diaphragm.
