1989 Ford 3910 Paint color?

Anyone know for sure what the correct paint code # is? I see a 1639 and a 1467 but nothing references which code is correct for that year model. Thanks in advance.

Anyone? I'm still looking for the truth on this one.

Ok so another question. Does anyone know Fords blue stayed the same from 1964-1994? The New Holland dealership says yes but i'm not so sure.

I do not know personally, but there was another thread on here the other day where folks were discussing that it stayed the same even longer than that. Some said they thought that it didn't change until 2000 and others said it was 2001. Look for a thread with a title of something about old or new Ford blue. Actually, there were several replies that somehow appeared as their own separate threads (at least in modern view), so you may need to go through all of them to follow the entire thread.

I don't know what the 4 digit numbers mean, that you wrote.

Those aren't paint codes. probably paint formula numbers for a specific brand of paint.

Regardless, the original Ford Blue lasted from 1964/2000. New Ford Blue is 2001/-

That is the only 2 colors you can get. Except, now I see that New Holland just announced some sort of new deep blue special paint you can get on certain models.

If your tractor is from 1989, it should be painted with the Old Ford Blue. It is best to get it from a New Holland dealer, as the off brands are not a perfect match. Also, the gray color on the fenders and rims is Ford "Gloss Gray."

Everytime I see a repainted Ford on craigslist, a little part of me dies, because 92.998% of the time, they paint it the wrong color, or the wrong color scheme. Refer to literature for correct paint scheme and decals.

That is my other beef...

There are a lot of discount decal makers out there and a lot of them don't have a clue as to what the decal should look like. I see it all the time. Things so blatantly wrong that it ruins the entire paint job.

Then again, it's your tractor, paint it pink if you want! It's just the people who paint the tractor for resale and to a terrible job... That's my pet peeve.

Thanks for the info. I have several original brochures to review and plan to buy OEM decals so color scheme and decals should be right or extremely close. This also why I'm trying so hard to get a good color match. For some reason I always thought the 67-80 tractors were a very slight different shade of blue but maybe not. Anyway if this is the case then I will match the paint from NH to a PPG omni with clear. This is going to be one sharp girl when she's done. :)

The reason you think that is that the paint, when faded overtime, makes teh color a milky shade of light blue. There is a huge amount of paint companies who use this milky blue as teh correct color. It is not. All those tractors, when new, all had that deeper straight blue. You can see it if you look at some ford literature from the 1970's. They were not a color wash, but that awesome blue.

If you have any specific paint questions, feel free to ask me. I owned an autobody shop for 9 years, painted professionally for 15 before returning to farming full time. It was a hobby that paid the bills, now that the bills are paid, I'm a farmer again!

The fading is a good point and something i was thinking about as well. Ok so i just pulled out my brochures. I have ones from 66 (3-5000 series), 70 (3-5000 series), 76, 82 (10 series), 89 (10 series), and 1993 (3930 tractors etc). Believe it or not all tractors up to the 82 brochure show what i call the Ford blue with a slight green hue color. However, the 89 and 2002 brochure don't have the green hue and are definitely more blue looking and just a hair darker in color. The other thing i came to realize is that about all of these tractors were supplied from England too. I've even noticed that every 3910 i've looked at 88-90 had a serial number that started with BB which designates an England made tractor. Anyway, I wonder if there was a slight difference in the color formulation or something. After looking further at my 3910 i compounded a place under the hood to bring back the color and guess what? Its still that shade of darker blue with less green hue. This is what has me baffled as i know my tractor has original paint and its definitely the exact color of my 1998 Ford 3930 with less than 300 hours on it. They are both more of blue and slightly darker in color.

Last thing i did was to spray some of the blue i bought from NH on a piece of metal to put up against my tractor. Again this is the NH blue spray paint that says 63-00 on the can. I'm about tempted to buy the paint for the 3930 tractors 04 and up just to see if it matches my tractor. Again i'm matching to the underside of the hood which has no sun exposure. Surprisingly enough the top side is not a whole lot different than under the hood though and again neither match what NH says is the correct blue.

So in review the NH blue 63-00 matches all my brochures 66-82. However the brochures 89-92 show a slightly darker blue with less green hue. Any thoughts?

Maybe they used a different printing company to print the brochures where the tractors look a different color. Different printing houses might use different printing equipment and/or different inks that could account for the differences as well.
