1965 Ford Commander 6000

I have a 1965 Ford commander that has fuel making its way into the oil pan when sitting. I am assuming the fuel lift pump is bad and is letting fuel into the block. The tractor will only start with a sniff of starting fluid and if I stall it or shut it off it will not start again for at least half an hour. It runs excellent and has all the power I could ever ask, just doesn't start or even fire on deisel alone. Any thoughts???? Does anyone know what was so special about the fuel pump from this year? I can't find one anywhere, even used

The fuel supply pump is nothing special except for fitting in the place it has to fit. If you cannot find one just bolt a plate over the hole and install an electric pump on your 6000. Another possibility is the fuel return line under the valve cover could be leaking.
Have you changed the oil in your Simms injector pump lately? Be sure it is serviced properly. Do you know how to use the "rich start" button? If not that will make a big difference in how one starts.

Thanks agjim,
I will check out the return line for leaks and no I have not changed the oil in the injector pump, thanks for the reminder. I did try the rich start button once but it led to a very flooded engine and poor running for about an hour after it did finally start again. I will revisit the issue again. I'm sure my injector pump needs a rebuild, I'm just trying everything else first because I hear it is very expensive to have done. I read somewhere that I need to check the timing of the injector pump? Thanks for the help.
