23.1x26 on a thousand series?

Ok guys my 5000 has 13.6x38 rears and last night one of them gave out. So I plan to boot the tire and replace the tube to get me by for now. But I've always wanted to put wider tires on it. Our ground is heavy to clay and wider would be better for floating on top.

So after some research it seems a 23.1x26 tire is roughly the same height and many of them I see for sale used are 8 and 10 ply (which would be far better than my 4 ply 13.6's).

Does anybody have any pictures of a 23.1x26 on a tractor about the size of a 5000?

Also what disadvantages would there be of a wider tire?

23.1x26 is as common combine drive tire, hence the
heavy ply rating (has to carry a 5-8 ton machine
plus 2-3 tons of grain). I've seen a pic of a 5000
wearing them but don't remember where that was.
Looked good as far as height. Only nnegatinve I can
think of would be making it hard to get enough
weight to make them bite in some conditions (like
snow!).

That was my thought as well. The tractor might actually "float" too well and not want to bite. But from the chart it looks like you can put almost 1400lbs of liquid in a 23.1 which would help a lot. Hmmm

An 18.4x30 would be about the same height as a 13.6x38 so that is a possibility. The trick is finding a set with 8 bolt wheels, within driving distance that don't cost as much as a new tractor. ha

Within driving distance of a salvage yard? Won't be
'cheap', but should be significantly cheaper than a
new set. Maybe look at 15.5's? Or 16.9's (but they
would need wider rims, and would make you go
faster...but could use same centers).

Just thought of something... is this the 4x4 5000?
(Roadless?) You'd have to be VERY, VERY close to the
same rolling diameter as the 13.6's for it to work
properly. Maybe a set of duals would be better?

Yeah this is the roadless 4x4 5000. I know the rolling circumference needs to be very close to the stock 13.6's. I know a 15.5 would work and would run them if I could find a good set for reasonable money.

The 23.1x26s and 18.4x30 might work as their diameters and rolling circumferences are very close depending on which brand and style of tire you go with.

For now I think I will just patch the tube I have and boot the tire to get me through until winter. Then think about changing tire and wheel size.

Thanks for the help it gives me something to ponder. haha
