Good afternoon all,

I have been messing around every so often trying to find the right combination for mounting the new alternator. I ended up rotating the bottom support 180 degrees and shimming it out about 1-1/2". This allows me to mount the alternator in front of the bottom bracket with a bolt that runs full length (roughly 8 1/2"). By shimming out the bottom, i was able to use the top bracket unmolested, save a few shims to move it forward a little. This also allowed me to use the old 41" belt. I did not swap pulleys as the genny pulley would have moved me further forward than I could allow and I left the 3/8" pulley with the 1/2" belt. Here are a couple of pics.

Hey all,

Got the easy part of the rewire done, ie ripped the old wires off!! :D The starter relay is stamped 6V. It seems I've read that I can use that with the 12V without problem?

TIA

Chris

Yes! you can use the relay again. It doesn't care about 6 or 12, or pos or neg ground either!
What ya going to use on the # 1 ? lead on the alt? a light or a diode? I used a light on my 4000 (64) and love the visual of the light.
I found some spiral loom at the Walmart that really made my rewire go much better/look nice.
I also got a roll of blue electric tape and it matched the tractor color.
After you remove the Voltage regulator and the generator, there really aren't that many wires on these tractors.
Have fun!

Thanks Keith,

My tractor came from the factory with a charge indicator lamp, so #1 is taken care of. What section of wally world did you find the spiral loom in? She's just an old beater, but if it's cheap and easy, I do what I can.
