1970 Ford 4000 hydraulic pump removal advice (gear-type)

Hi -
I've got the lift cover off my '70 4000su. 8-speed trans w/indep. PTO so the pump is a gear-type on the right hand side under the seat.

3pt stopped working under load, but would lift fine with no weight on the arms. PTO would engage and disengage so the pump was delivering some pressure but I'm not sure how much. It had been working for years and quit the day after I had moved a heavy dumpster.

I've got the lift cover rebuild kit and I did find one o-ring that was in bad shape. But I was thinking that while I was in here I might remove the pump, replace the $20 relief valve on it, and maybe see if I could remove/clean or replace the filters.

To remove the pump, the shop manual says to slacken the bolts on the flow control assembly, remove the snap ring on the line between the pump and the flow control assembly, and then tap the line upward into the flow control assembly. I've tapped a little but I'm not seeing any movement. Not sure how hard I want to hit it.

Started looking beyond that at disconnecting the low-pressure line to the PTO and the plumbing to the filters. These filters look like they just might be possible to remove, or perhaps they could be impossible to remove. Various threads in this forum suggest the latter, though the shop manual says that the filters should be cleaned and replaced while I'm in here. One filter on the RHS near the diff looks hard to reach. A flat screen down low below the hydraulic pump looks possible if I can figure out how to unbolt the bracket. No interest in splitting the tractor for this project though.

Figured this was a good time to take a break, post this info, and see if others could offer some advice. My primary goal was to replace the easy stuff while I had the lift cover off, and to get the lift working again before it starts snowing.

Thanks in advance for any advice. Let me know if you need more info on the tractor to help narrow things down.
