How do I stop the right rear axle seal from leaking ? This is keeping my brakes from working. Can you buy new seals or re-pack the original ones? How is this done?
Lots of questions, but thanks in advance.

What type of tractor do you have? If it is a TEA 20, TO 20, or TE 20, then you can purchase from your local tractor parts dealer replacement seals called "sure seals". You remove the axles, do not disassemble... Clean out the bearing and pack them with a good high pressure grease. Then install the seals over the bearings. Reinstall axles as per manual. The "sure seals" are excellent in that they provide a positive seal between the differential housing and the brake assembly area thereby ensuring that gear oil NEVER gets into your brakes again! I recently installed a set on my TEA 20 and I'm happy!

Good luck!

Not SureSeal, but Napa Auto Parts carries the inner seal. p/n NOS19886. There are some on-line stores that have the seals also.

Bernie,
I keep hearing about sure seals but until now thought that they were only for Fords. Where did you get them?
Can you describe them further? I don't quite understand - do they stretch over the bearings somehow? I need to do something about my TEA too; brake shoes are damp.
Thanks,
Jim

I got my "sure seals" from the local White Agro dealer. I've also seen that at Ford tractor dealers. I know of at least 3 people who have tham on their TEA 20's. Also know an old mechanic who's used them for years, they're all that he recommends.

The "sure seal" is a seal assembly that attachs by pressed in fit to the bearing carrier (the unit which retains the axle to the housing). The actual seal remains stationary and the axle turns around inside it. Can be hard to picture if you don't know the parts that I'm trying to describe.

If you need more help get your self a manual and study the parts and how they're assembled, if you don't have a manual email me and I'll send you copies of the required pages.

Good luck, and they do work well!

The old Fergie mechanic told me Harry designed the seals to leak on the brake shoes to keep the shoes from wearing out.

there are two seals on each axle housing one is just an ordinary oil seal on the end of the axle housing. the other sets behind the axle bearing. the bearing has to be pressed off in order to change this seal.you can take the axle assembly out and take it to your dealer it will probably cost you around $100 for both sides.i tried just changing the other seal but it worked for only a while and then oil got back on the brakes.
