How different is the Dexta from the 8N? are parts interchangeable? (at least on a modular basis)

dino, iworked for a ford tractor dealer in the late 70's. as far as i can remember the dexta was a british made ford tractor most of the components would not interchange with an american made ford ie: 2n,8n,9n,ect. it used metric bolts and such. i don't know if there is a book that would tell you what will interchange. good luck.

I think the Dextra and Ford 2000 are more related than the Dextra and 8N.

Randy, I don't think that there are metric bolts etc. used in Fordson Dexta. At least the Fordson Major doesn't have them. In fact I think all the English tractors don't have metric bolts. What comes to the interchanging parts, I don't think there are any parts that'll interchange. The 2N, 8N and 9N are all based on the Ferguson tractor. The Dexta was their own design.

Duner Wi, When they ceased the production of Fordsons in -64, they started a new series of tractors. They were Ford 2000, 3000, 4000 and 5000. They were also called "Ford 2000 Dexta", "Ford 3000 Super Dexta", "Ford 4000 Major" and "Ford 5000 Super Major". I quess that they wanted to use the fame of the previous models by giving their name to the new ones. Anyway I'm not so sure if the Dexta and the Ford 2000 have parts interchangeable either, because the new series was a whole new design. I'm not sure but I think that the Dexta (prior to the change of range) was called sometimes Ford 2000 in US.

Sorry for the length of this post.
