I recently rebuilt my Marvel-Schrader (sp??) carb. and the settings that were provided in my shop manual seemed to be great for the initial start-up.

The small knob is for low speed and the intial setting is supposed to be 7/8 of a turn open. After many small adjustments I have ended up with about 7/8 of a turn open at around 450 rpm.

The large knob located toward the front of the carburator top, slightly angled, is the high speed jet adjustment. This initial setting should be 1 1/4 turn open. Again after many small adjustments at about 2200 rpm under a load I ended up with 1 1/2 open for best performance. We are cautioned to never operate the engine with this setting at less than 1 1/4 open because the engine needs the cooling effect of the gas/air mixture and anything less than 1 1/4 turns open may allow some over-heating in the intake valves.

I hope this helps. Please let all of us know what your final settings become.
