I have a Ferguson 30. This is what the hood ornament says, yet the serial TO-41777 falls after the TO-20 s/n's and before the TO-30 s/n's that I find at this web site. Can someone please help me with this?

Milton: Hi. I agree with Pete. Your serial number suggests a TO-20, 1951. In addition to the Z-120 engine (TO-20) vs. Z-129 (TO-30), the TO-30 had an external oil filter (canister-style) where the TO-20's is in the sump. The air filter is a little different in that the TO-30 breather screen is on the dash panel--the TO-20's is fully under the hood. The TO-30 dash may have 3 gauges (oil pressure, ammeter and temperature). The TO-20 does not have a temperature gauge. Hope this helps, David, MI

Hello, New Tractor owner here. Thought I bought a TE 20 But...The Serial # stamp just under the Steering wheel has clearly stamped TE 424992 with an A stamped by hand just after the TE. Every S/N list I see is 5 digits long this obviously has 6. The engine has an external oil filter and has an instrument (cluster!), and air intake like a TO 30. I am having issues with this S/N Tag. The last owner had the thing for at least 12 yrs and it has always run well, as an on the job snow plow and wood hauler. Oh and one other thing... On the hood under the spray paint I see The word Ferguson in script on a decal and the Head lights have this quirky wing molding! Is a TE(A) 424992 a predessesor to the TO? The engine has a number SC 86996 VP on the left side. I have a great tool here but what is it TE, TO, or what?

Ray: Hi. Congratulations! From the info you provided you have a TEA-20, 1954 with a Standard Motors engine. TE stands for Tractor England--made in England, and TO stands for Tractor Overseas--made in USA--mostly Detroit. There have been some discussions about the TEA designation and others that are similar TE-20-80 or TE-20-85. This site may be as or more helpful:>Link

I>Link would suggest that you take some time to do a TEA-topic specific search of the Ferguson forum on this web site, then post away. On the Yahoo Ferguson club, take some time to read through the more recent posts--there is much to be learned.

So that you can benefit from other member's input, use a fresh post (today's date). Many people will miss our exchange and not provide additional comments to you.

Good luck, David, MI

Milton, According to my figures, your tractor was built in early 1951. Start number for that year was 39163, and finish number was 72679. TO-30 came in at serial number 60001, in August 1951. Could it be that you have a T0-20 that someones put a TO-30 bonnet on? Best way to find out is look at the engine - do you have a Continental Z120 or a Z130?
Pete.

Pete, I looked and found z129a600 on the engine. From the information you and David have given me I have a to-30 with a to-20 serial number. I just repaired the hydraulic pump. The I&T book I have says the to-30 has the oscillator and mine does. So far the only thihg I have found that is to-20 are the heads and gaskets on this pump. The to-30 should have "o" rings.
