Hi,
I just cleaned and repaired a 6 volt western generator off of an early 50's farmall. Spinning it with an electric motor I got a 11.3 v output on my vom? I know some car alts can put out 18-19 volts when full fielded but 11.3 seems high for a 6 volt, is this normal? I spun it a 1600 rpm for less than 30 seconds. Sorry for the long post, any help would be greatly appreciated
Bret.

You should ask the guys on the Farmall & IHC forum. They will likely have the answer. Good Luck!

It depends on the application. I can tell you that the 6V generator H.Ferguson tractors use are capable of 16-19 ampheres output maximum. It has a 3rd brush that is movable to regulate output. I've tried running the max. output and it shortens the battery life when used for all except short intervals. Perhaps you can set back the 3rd brush to reduce the output.
