My Son was working on a trail in the wood's. He was watching the back blade and not where he was going. He went off the trail into a swampy creek. The water was up to the clutch petal. When he got it pulled out, he drove it home with no problems. However, the next time I went to start it. The clutch would not dissengage. You push the petal down and you only grind gears. I know the clutch still works, Because if you idle the tractor down real low it will pop into gear and take off. I change the oil thinking it was a hydraulic/water problem. But to no avail. Can any one help me? I have no idea what went wrong? Thanks so much.

The cluch disc is lined with the same stuff brake shoes are. It will swell a little when it gets wet. You can either take a little play out of the cluch pedal or just run it untill it dries out. You will just have to idle it down to shift it like you have been doing till it dries.
You should have 3/16 inch free travel from the pedal stop down to the cluch pedal rod.

Tie a chain to it and a big tree. get the chain pretty tight (no slack) and start her up. She'll pop loose.

Try driving in 2nd or 3rd gear while holding the clutch down, and alternately locking one brake then the other, I just did this for the guy next
door, and after a few trys it broke free goodluck and hang on !

My guess is the clutch disk is rusted to the flyheel or clutch cover. Just get it going as you have done before but this time hold the clutch petal down , with any luck it will free up. Once it is freed up you might want to slip the clutch a bit to get the surfaces cleaned up.

I did what Duner suggests. I started my TO30 and idled up to a large tree, depressed the clutch pedal and pushed against the tree until the clutch broke free. I then slipped the clutch until I began to smell it. That was 13 years ago and the clutch still works great. My TO30 had been in a fire and water had rusted the flywheel and clutch disc together after sitting for 2yrs.

I'm sorry this is the first time I posted a message. The tractor is a 1952 TO-30. I've really gained a lot from this web site thank you all very much.

youll have to take the starter switch out of the top of the bell housing to get to it but the release bearing is binding on the collar , i had the same problem on my TO30 , SPRAY A LITTLE LUBRCANT IN THERE ON THE SHAFT IF YOU CAN GET TO IT , BUT DONT OVER DO IT .I HOPE THIS HELPS
