While investigating a bottom end knock which I now believe to be the connecting rod bearings on Cyl #3, I removed my oil pan and discovered 3 semi circular "bushings" that looked like they had been in the oil pan for some time. I have some pictures and would be happy to email them to anyone who thinks they can identify them.

Thanks

While you're checking things out go through a visual inspection to see if your crank bearings and your connecting rod bearings are still there--especially cylinder #3. I wonder if you have had some connecting rod bearings come loose and fall out. Good luck, David (in Michigan)

Send me a pic and I will try. Pete is probably right about the thrust. if it has run long without them you may have problems. Does the knock go away or get worse when you press on the clutch? if so the thrust may be the noise.

These bits sound like the crankshaft thrust washers to me - I would check to see that yours havnt become displaced. If you're lucky they may just have been left in the sump from a previous repair job - obviously a very sloppy mechanic. If your thrusts have become displaced it's a relatively simple job to replace them.

Another possibility is a piston pin bushing it be approx. 3/4" long by 1/2" dia.,if it was a full circle. And be all brass. Good luck.
