Greetings from Indiana. Am looking at to35 with the hi/lo trans. Am not familiar with this option. I hope to find a used tractor for use in my christmas tree/nursery business. In low range is the speed of PTO also reduced? Will tractor run a 3pt tiller 6'? 5'? I know that they are legendary for reliability and long life, am very interested in it. Somebody familiar with the unit please give me a no-nonsense rundown( pros & cons) Thanks in advance to you fergie pros.

The 35 is truly a GREAT tractor.

The 3 cylinder Perkins engine is best for power, long life, fuel economy and lowest repair cost.

At 10 hp per foot, a 5 foot tiller will be a very heavy load unless you are in sandy ground.

The low range does not affect the PTO speed on the tractors with two stage clutches which most have. I can't say for the single speed clutches.

Check out Big Dean's site - a wealth of info there.

And toss your questions out as they come up - lots of good info here; probably more on the 35's on the massey section of the YT site (on the selection bar at the top).

I'm pretty sure PTO speed wouldn't be affected on single clutch models, as the planetary gear for low range is driven by the tranny's output shaft when it is engaged, and the pto is driven off of the transmission input shaft. The Z134 gas is a very dependable, durable engine, mine is burning oil big time, and the oil pressure is a bit low, but, it starts on the first try every time, and it has plenty of power, not sure how it's be running a tiller though.
