The only question I have for a Ferguson TO-20 hydraulic pump base plate (directly under the seat though on the underside of the tractor in the differential area) is.....is it supposed to come off free and easy or is it connected to the pump itself somewhere internally

Jim is correct about having to remove the PTO and control forks to drop the pump out. I would not spend my money on an IT manual if you intend to do a lot of work on this tractor. Get a Ferguson shop manual. It has much more information and detail. I'm told you can get them through Massey dealers.

I think the pumps are the same as a 9-N Ford. There is no base plate, the pump is cast as one unit. To remove the pump you have to pull the PTO shaft as it goes through th pump. The PTO shaft is what runs the pump. You also have to disconnect control arm forks. I think you can do that through the cover plate where the dipstick is. Been years since I changed one, but I think I remember right. You should invest in a I&T shop service manual. It would save you a lot of time waiting for replys. And the pictures let you see what you are getting into.
