What size battery cable should run from the positive to the ground on a six volt system? My TO-30 has what looks to be a 2 gauge negative cable, but a 6 gauge positive. Shouldn't this be 2 gauge also? I am asking because she doesn't like to start. Thanks in advance for any response. VA.

Original cables are 1/0 size. A local battery store made mine for me. This is the main reason for guys switching to 12V, they don't properly maintain the 6V system and believe switching will solve the problem.

A 2 gauge cable is adequate for your purposes since it is a short cable. In a 6 volt system, cables over 36" are better off at 1 gauge for most small tractors. 6 gauge is definately too small for 6 volt systems.

Can't tell you the gauge number but 2 even sounds small. You want them big and you need them both the same size. A good auto parts store can fix you up. Jst tell them you need a 6 v cable NOT the 12v variety. For comparison purposes, a 6 volt cable is about as big around as my biggest finger and the 12V cable is about the size of my little finger. It ain't very scientific or techy but it's the best I can say to get you to the right size.
