I posted last week about a Ferguson 30 I was going to pick up .

I got it home last Saturday . New plug wires and coil got it to fire up . Runs but carb needs a rebuild . How difficult is this to do ? I do have decent mechanical skills but have never done any seriuos carb work .

Hydraulics seem to work well . Lots of other odds and ends here and there to adjust and replace but nothing major .

There is no serial no. plate and I can't read the plate on the engine . Is there any other way to tell the year of my new baby ?

I will have to get me a Zane Thang also !

Thanks for listening !

First make sure the gas tank strainer is not clogged with dirt in the tank just drain the gas and take off the sediment bowl assembly do that first before you touch the carb. These carbs are readily available and so are the kits they are very simple probably needs to be taken apart and soaked in cleaner for a few days make sure you carefully clean the passages in the carb. I have a shop manual for the TO 30 email me direct if you are interested in getting one.

When I aquired my TO30, the carb was not functioning well either. I cleaned the tank, sediment bowl, and drained the carb bowl. I added a bottle of gas line/carb cleaner, refilled the tank and just let it run or drove/used it. After 2 tanks of gas, the tractor smoothed out, still haven't rebuilt carb(10yrs). This is just my experience. About the model of your tractor, way back on this board was a post that said you can take the casting nos. of the engine, trans, diff., to a MF dealer and they will be able to identify it. I've not tried it , but It's worth a go at it.
