Hi,

Just wanted to know a few things about the carb on a Continental engine. It is an updraft carb, I think a Marvel. If gas was leaking from where the pipe from the air cleaner joins the carb would this be caused be a sunken float in the carb? Also would a sunken float cause hard starting and a lot of smoke? Thanks.

I have found that the majority of the time when the Needle valve leaks it is caused from trash fron the tank getting in the seat all of the thing from the previous post will also cause the problem

could be a sunken float, stuck needle valve or misadjusted float. Any one of these could cause hard starting and smoke.
