Hello,
A friend bought a Ferguson tractor today at auction. It has a 4 cyl OHV engine, live PTO, and Sherman transmission. It was advertised as a TO-35, but I believe that may be in error. Any help on what he bought? BTW, the sale price was $2000 for what appears to be a very tight and nice machine. I have Fords, so I could only advise him on this one because it looked so good and nobody seemed to want to bid it up. A number of much lesser machines went for much more, so I feel like he just about stole it. Any help is appreciated.

Serial number is best key to determine what he has. Link on left on this page will help if you have serial. If there is no serial number plate (should be on dash), engine number will be good hint. If it starts with Z120, likely a TO20. If Z129, likely a TO30. If Z134, likely a TO35. Hope that helps.

You do not have a TO20 or 30 if it has true live power. I think the first H. Ferguson tractor to have live power was the 35. The local MF dealer can tell you the year from the numbers on the engine, tran, diff., or so a prior post stated. If you do as Phil said, and find the s#, then go to the research&info site to find the info. you seek.
