Dual Clutch Compatability

I have an early 1955 TO35 gas and a 1959 TO35 standard diesel both with a dual clutch. I am overhauling the Z134 gas engine from the 1955 tractor with the early model dual clutch. The pressure plate is completely shot and I want to use the later model pressure plate from my parts tractor with the Standard diesel. Can anyone tell me if the early flywheel will work with the later model dual pressure plate assembly or will I have to get either a late model Z134 flywheel to use with my late model pressure plate or a good early model pressure plate? Thanks, hope this isn't too confusing.

Bob: I am not specifically familiar with the differences between these two engines, but the answer lies in the flywheels themselves or the crankshaft. I assume the diameters of the two flywheels are the same and likely so is the thickness. The ring gear is also likely the same (though you may have to swap the ring gear from one to the other if the starters are different, or the tooth pattern is different). The critical issue is are the bolt patterns for the two flywheels the same? I suspect that the diesel engine (made by Perkins, I think) may not have the same crankshaft as the Z134 engine (Continental). However they may well have the same bolt/mounting pattern. If the dimensions and bolt patterns are the same between the two flywheels, you should be able to interchange them. If there is an issue with the ring grear that is easy to rectify. Hope this helps, David
