DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THE MASSEY HARRIS FERGUSON PEOPLE BUILT AND SOLD A FERGUSON TO-35 IN 1957 THAT HAD BEIGE TIN (LIKE THE F-40) AND GREY CASTINGS? I RECENTLY SAW AN AD FOR A TO-35 THAT CLAIMED IT WAS A FACTORY ORIGINAL 1957 MODEL PAINTED BEIGE TIN AND GREY CASTINGS. I QUESTION ITS VALIDITY BUT SOME NUTSY THINGS WERE GOING ON WITH THE MHF PEOPLE AT THAT TIME AND IT COULD HAVE HAPPENED!I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF FERGUSONS BUT NEVER A 35 WITH BEIGE TIN? COMMENTS APPRECIATED.

No, Joe, you have not been smoking grass! Beginning in April of 1956 when the Ferguson F-40 began production, M-H-F began painting the Ferguson TO-35s the same colors as the F-40 (beige and flint metallic gray). They used this color scheme until the F-40 was discontinued in late 1957. For 1958 the TO-35 became red/flint metallic gray. In 1960 the TO-35 was rebadged as the MF 35.

The original plan had been to paint the F-40 the same color as the Ferguson Gray/metallic green TO-35s but that was then changed to beige/metallic green. A number of pre-production F-40 models were painted beige/green before they finalized the beige/flint gray colors.

You are correct. There was a lot of confusion and change at M-H-F during this time period. The final MF red/flint gray colors reflected a compromise so that red reflected the M-H roots and the gray reflected the Ferguson roots. A rather good solution, I think.
