Sounds like the Fergusons like most others were painted to order if the order would pay.
They didn't start archive records until the early sixties and if an order came in for two or more machines a certain color then thats what they were painted.
A good source said if a county road department or a school district ordered yellow machines then they got 'em that way from the factory.
The story goes a landowner living in a large plains state ordered a nice quantity of tractors and combines painted green with shamrocks;
and thats what he got!

I recently purchased a TO30 which had been repainted in red/gray. The paint job(which was poorly done) has begun to peel, exposing yellow paint on the entire tractor. It appears that under the yellow paint is primer, leading me to believe that the tractor was originally yellow. I will begin restoration on the tractor this summer and will return the tractor to the gray color. If and when I begin the process, I hope to be able to post a few pictures.
