I recently picked up a TO-35 with the Z134. Runs good. What size of brush hog and rotortiller can this old girl handle well? Does she need an overrunning clutch on the P.T.O.? Dave

I just bought a to35 with a 5' bushhog.
Tried it out a bit on a field of 2-4'
saplings. Seems like 5-6' would be OK.
Makes the front end light, but power wasn't
a problem.

Does your TO35 have a dual clutch ('live PTO).
If so, the PTO disengages from the trans
when you push the clutch down. Its the simpler style 'non-live PTO' that keeps the
PTO engaged. With non-live PTO, you need
to shift into neutral, or shift out the PTO
if you want to stop suddenly. Otherwise the
spinning bushhog acts like a giant flywheel, continuing to push the tractor forward even
though you've hit the brakes. Could make you
hit the fence, or worse roll it on top of
you in the ditch. I'll leave the question of
whether you need a ORC with live PTO to the
experts (I'm not) and lawyers, but I believe most
folks think you're for sure smart to run one
with a non-live PTO. The TO35s came both ways
(live and non-live, depending on whether you
have a dual clutch or not)>

depending on how flat your land is, 5 or 6 ft. is all you will want hanging back there. ORC IS A MUST. i have a 6' field tiller, and my 15 hp kubota with hydrostat pushes it better than my fergie. first gear is way too fast in the clay we call dirt here in southwestern ontario.
