I picked up these two mowers from a guy down the road. A 5ft King Kutter brush hog and a FMC 4 foot flail mower. I have a TO20. I have no experience with flail mowers, what are they intended for, brush, fields, finish mowing, ? Also, I am wondering if I need "anti sway bars" The guy I bought these things from recommended I use them. I don't have them on my TO20. Is this necessary, or do the sway chains suffice?

I always use at least one sway bar. With the two chains, one sway bar should be enough. As others said, if you don't have an override clutch for your PTO, get one of those. You'll need one with 1 1/8" input (tractor) side and 1 3/8" output (cutter) side, about $65 most places.

IT IS NOT NECESSARY THAT YOU HAVE THE SWAYBARS BUT I WOULD RECEMEND IT FOR FULL CONTROL OF THE MOWER, ALSO ON THE TO 20/30 YOU SHOULD HAVE THE RATCHET CONNECTION BETWEEN THE BUSH HOG SHAFT AND THE PTO SHAFT, DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE BUSH HOG SHAFT WILL KEEP THE TRACTOR MOVING IN THE FORWARD DIRECTIONUNLESS YOU DISENGUAGE THE PTO BEFORE TRYING TO STOP

NEVER NEVER NEVER use your tractor without either the chains or sway bars! I was putting a boom pole on my TO 30 and when I hit the lift control, it kicked sideways and trapped me between the lift arm and rear tire. I was in lots of pain until my son came home and found me about 45 minutes later. Of course I shouldn't have been standing in the back area but if I had chains on, it wouldn't have trapped me. PASS IT ON.

Bill... I would highly recomend sway bars.... The chain type stablizers are the best.... And an absolute must is an over running/riding clutch on your PTO if the mowers don't have them built in.
