I have an F-40 that when I am running it the ammeter is always in the high discharge mode. Never use it for more than 2-3 hours. It doesn't seem to be draining the battery and I have been able to start it the next time.
Any ideas? How do you check the generator and voltage regulator to see if they are good?
Could it be in the wiring?

Thanks,

Hello, Josh -

Is it possible the ammeter is wired in reverse?

One test - does the ammeter indicate charge if you turn on the lights with the engine stopped?

The fact that it continues to start tells us the system is probably charging ok. If you have a volt meter, a check of the battery voltage before and after starting will be helpful. Any increase from the at-rest voltage indicates the charging system is working.

Hope this helps.
