About 4 months ago I came onto this website with questions about my tractor. Some of you might remember me as the guy with the Mystery Machine, or the guy with carb problems. Well I finally have the mystery machine running. I took the advice of one of you guys and sent the Carb out to get professionally rebuilt. And After I filled the gas tank up and a couple of cranks later it was alive. I would like to thank everyone for their insite and help with my problem. The only thing is, I still do not know what I have year or make. There is no plate by the steering wheel with a serial or model number. I have located several " HF " and a series of numbers on the frame and case. Is there anyway of telling what it is off of those markings? Any help as always is greatly appreciated. I would like to know what it is for proper restoration.

Thanks
Tom

Also, this is a four speed, and you start it buy pushing the shifter directly up from reverse if thats any help. When I go home today I will get all the numbers off of the tractor and post them.

Glad you've got it running again - bet it sounds good.

From your description, you have a TE(?) or TO-20 or TO-30. Most likely a TO, but it could have been a TEA,or TED, TEE, or a host of other options.

Do you have a Contintental engine (engine number begins Z and then 120 or 129? If 120 then you have a TO-20, if 129, you have a TO-30 I think - if what I have learned about the differences between 'yours' and 'ours' is correct.

Someone will put me right if I'm wrong, I am sure (grin).

I am 95% sure that it is a Z120 Continental engine.

If you have a Z120 engine then you either have a TE-20 or a TO-20.

TE's were made in england and shipped here until the TO plant in Detroit opened. To tell the difference look at the electronics. If you have a lucus generator then you have a TE if it is a Delco then it is a TO.

Either way the T-20 are about the same and have the same manuals. As the minor differences are handeled as seperate paragraphs in the manuals.

Happy Tractoring.

Dating it precisely can only be done off the serial number on the plate by the steering wheel (the one you don't have!!)

Colour is Ferguson grey - someone here will have a suitable NAPA reference for you - you want a light grey, not the later dark grey that was applied to the 135/165 and later engine and transmissions.

Don't worry too much about the shade of grey - a line up of TE20s over here looks like a swatch from a Pantone colour reference chart!!

Thanks for all the help so far, I was at a meeting late last night and forgot to get the numbers off of the case, but I seem to Remember that one of the numbers was something like: HF TO24. If that is any help in figuring out what it is than hopefully someone will know a little more about it.
Thanks Tom

Sorry the number I gave earlier was wrong, I am at home and i just pulled these numbers off of the tractor:
HF TO-4024(underneath the seat on the side of the case)
TO-7006
TO-4013-A(on left rear axle side) TO-4012-A(on right rear axle side)
Z120 A600 CWC A99(on the engine block)

Hope this might help anyone trying to conform that this is a TO-20

Thanks Tom
