When I drained the fluid out of my TO-30 I noticed a lot of sludge in the differential access plate. There is a fluid gallery on the right side leading to the 3point hitch and when I feel around inside the differential there seems to be something dealing with that gallery. Are there precautions that I need to be aware of prior to removing the cover to remove the sludge?
Thanks

what access plate? on the side or bottom? the only plate on the bottom is the hyd. pump plate! DO YOU HAVE A SERVICE MANUAL???if not get one!and do not remove cover untill you disconnect the 3 point control fork or you will brake the valve bone in half

I second that Marlowe. Mike, have you removed all three drain plugs to completely drain each area: diff/hyds/trans? Each area will retain nearly 2 qts. of fluid if not drained individually, and it will be water, sludge.
