I just aquired a HF TO30 with engine code Z129.
1952 model. I am waiting on the manuals and need to know what weight of oil to use in the engine and what weight of gear lube for the gear box and rear end. Does the three point hitch hydraulics use the same fluid that is in the rear differential or is it regular hydraulic fluid.

Thanks

Mike

Mike, the archives have lots of info on your questions. You can do a search and get a wealth of info. Yes, the hydraulics use the same fluid as the differential and the tranny. It takes six gallons of 80/90 wt. mineral oil, available as M1103 at your MF dealer or as GL-1 from tractor supply places and NAPA. Don't use hyrdaulic fluid and don't use standard automotive gear oil (GL-3 and GL-5) which has some additives not good for the hydraulic pump. There are three drains, one fill hole. Make sure you drain it well, and clean gunk from the drain hole areas as best you can. Some people flush with kero, etc. It may drain for several hours; be patient. When you refill, you might want to let it sit for an hour or two to make sure the fluid gets to all areas and then check the level before you add the last gallon or so. You don't want to overfill and if it didn't drain completely that is easy to do. As to engine oil, for most climates straight 30 wt. is fine. In cold areas in the winter you may need straight 20 wt. I have used 15W40 with good results year 'round (VA). Most people say if the engine has been overhauled use detergent, but if never overhauled, use non detergent. HTH
