Diesel conversion 20C to P3.144

Hello!

I am planning to change my 20C-engine for a Perkins 3-cylinder 144 cu. in. diesel engine. I have the manual (Thanks, Don) but no engine. The Fordson Dexta used the same engine (called it F3.144 though).

Could anyone help me locate one? Preferably in Sweden and Europe. Could any other engine fit? The P3.152 has many parts interchangeable with the P3.144, except for pistons and sleeves of course - could it fit?

Regards Mattias

Mattias,
If you've seen a P3 engined TE20 before, you will know that you will have to make extensive changes to the bonnet and instrument panel to make it fit as it is a 'taller' engine than the Continental, or Standard engines by around three inches.

Why not go for a Standard diesel engine from one of the Ferguson breakers over here in the UK? E.g. Appleby's +44 1535 656608. To my ears they run quieter than the P3 which has that characteristic limping sound that all 3 cyl. engines have.

If you're really set on a P3 - try Ron Greet tractor parts (Fordsons mainly) on +44 1803 812269.

Good luck.

Hello James

Thanks for your answer. The thing is that my 4-cylinder diesel needs a rebuild and I was thinking that perhaps it would be easier to change into a 3-cyl. one.

Of course it would be nicer with a standard Standard. Very helpful links by the way
