Hi!
How do I remove the crank pulley from a TEA? I can see a large nut, and some tab things, but I have no idea how to undo it. Any ideas would be appreciated!

I bent the tabs back flat take the nut off and then use a puller to pull pulley off. Are you doing a front seal? If you need more help email me direct at rodswinamer@ns.sympatico.ca

Hi Rod
That makes sense, the challenge is that there isn't enough room in front of the pulley, to get the puller that I have on (as far as I know its the standard type). Am I missing something? The reason I asked this was because I wasn't sure how to get to the governer assembly, but it looked like I'd have to take off the pulley. Is there an easier way?
Thanks for the help!

Well it was some time ago but I think I had to take whole front off tractor it is not a real big job the front bolster just unbolts and take the radius rods off leave the front wheels on and roll it ahead that is only way to do it. I have the shop manual for the TEA it covers all the TE series.
email if you need one.

Thanks Ron
It makes sense, and yet it seems such a large amount of work just to get to the governer. I've already removed the radiator. I can get a shop manual in my local library, but thanks for the offer. One last question. Where would I put the jack to hold up the front end while it is off? As far as I can see, the trans- axle case is the only strong part, but then, wouldn't the engine counterbalance it and tip it over?

you can block it up right under the oil pan in front the oil pan on these tractors is pretty strong. Why are you wanting to get to the governor? there is only a mushroom shaped piece and some springs and weights, there is an adjustment screw on the left side of the governor. A regular TE TO 20 manual will not cover the TEA engine.

Back again!
I suspect that the governer is worn out (the weights) and the whole area is covered in this oily, sticky mess, so I want to clean it up. I also think it may have something to do with the miss the engine has got. Could this be possible?

not likely the governor is not causing the miss, more likely a points and plugs issue did you try starting it and pulling each plug wire off to see if you can isolate the miss. Champion plugs are not to good in the Fergusons for some reason they tend to go dead and misfire after sitting for long periods I have had two TEA's and had trouble with the plugs both times, I would start at plugs and points if you are sure compression is ok, set valves, check firing order is correct etc before I went at the governor. The oily mess could just be valve cover leak.
