Engine oil level

Can anyone tell me if the engine oil level on the dip stick should be in the middle of the full & low marks or at the full mark shop manual i have does not say. i have seen on other equipment like cat that it should be in the middle of the marks.The tractor is a 54 to-30.

The oil level max. is the top line. The level should not fall below the bottom line. Five and 1/2 qts. will refill the crankcase after draining the oil oil. The system holds 6 qts., but 1/2 qt remains in the system in passages, voids, low spots, etc. This is from the H.Ferguson owners manual.
