I've decided to sell my '49 TO-20. I picked up an 8N with the intention of selling it....but I ended up liking the N better....so, despite the fact that my Fergie is partially restored, and in better shape.....I'm gonna sell her.

She's just been painted with a brush (Not show quality...but looks great for a working tractor), has rebuilt carb, recent full tune-up. No leaks and no smoke. Very reliable, good rubber(1 new rear).....a turn key tractor. Great hydraulics. Rear weights. Bad points: No lights, steering box could use rebuild, but it drives fine.

I figured I'd ask $2800.00 for it, and maybe be a little negotiable if need be- Am I in the ballpark???

Richie, Just my opinion. Don't strip the good runners.
There are so many that are shot but do have some salvagable parts. Strip those, kinda like an organ donor program for tractors. But don't do the living ones! I have a few I restored and will NEVER recoup the money or time I put in. Just love the looks of em and marvel at the abuse and neglect they can take. You will most likely get $2000 if it's in that shape but with no goodies to go with it it may take a while. Why not try that first. Then make up your mind if the extra $500 is with the time and trouble.
Just my opinion. Everybody needs to do what they gotta.
Good luck with the N
Joe

Yeah, Joe.....there's just something about taking apart a perfectly useable, sweet running old tractor that just doesn't seem right. I put my Fergie on Ebay (whole!), as long as I can get at least $2,000 for it, I'll sell it. If not, I'll sell the 8N. The funny thing is: When we're looking for a tractor, it seems everyone wants top dollar for mediocre stuff. When we go to sell a tractor, suddenly they're not worth anything! I could see taking a tractor apart to part, if the clutch were bad and the engine smoked and the axle bearings were wiped, etc. But not one that I just bushogged 27 acres with!

Richie, Yeah, you're right about buyers having short arms and deep pockets! When they're selling though it's a whole different ball game. Stick with it the picture tells me it's worth 2G's. In New York they sell cause of the snow when you toss in a blade. Nice place Kentucky. I hunted there once. North of Bowling Green. Going there or Tenn. when I retire. See ya then! Glad ou didn't take wrong what I said about parting them out. Everyone has needs for cash but if you have the option keep'em together.
Have a good one,
Joe

Hey, Joe!

Well come on down!(to KY.)- I must live near where you went hunting, as I'm a little north (and east) of Bowling Green. I've only been here about 9 months....I'm from NY too- Lawn Guyland (Long Island). Never saw any Fergies (or any tractors, period) on the Island. Whole different world down here- it's still "America" here. (Not so in "the City or on the "island" anymore).....and you guys upstate have to pay for all the plans the liberals in the city make with your money.(Come to think of it, the not-so-conservative-lately "conservatives" do the same thing!)

Viva the Constitution Party! (How did I get off onto this subject???)

IMHO, you are asking a TO-30 price for your TO-20.

You may be right, Phil.

Trouble is, I'm having a hard time deciding which to sell- The TO 20 is in such good tune, I just touvh the starter and it lights off! The hydraulics are perfecto-mundo.....

The 8N isn't quite that perfect..... but I just like it. Maybe I'll advertise both of them, at a high-ish price....and whatever one I sell.....will make the decision for me.

Just strip it of every nut bolt and screw and sell it on Ebay and you will get more then that or at least about the same. Other wise you will probley get around 1,500 to 2,000 for it. Mark H.

Are you serious, Mark?

The only thing that would scare me, is once I start taking it apart, suppose I sell the tranny or something....and cant get rid of other parts?

I'd kick myself for taking apart a sweet running, good tractor! Or suppose it turned out that the block was cracked?

The idea is intriguing. You are serious? If I could get somewhere near that price for it that way, I'd do it, and have no reservations about keeping my N.

Any more advice about this?

(I could see myself doing that for a living!)

Thanks, Mark.

If it is a clean tractor and you don't feel bad about doing it to a running one. If your stuck selling one this is one way to do it. Mark H.
