Can't get the plow deep enough

I have a 1950 TO-20. I think I am asking too much of it. I have a two bottom plow with big mortar boards (12 or 14 in). The plow is blue and says "Willard" on it.

I have shortened the top link and adjusted the leveling attachment to drop the right board. I really cant get the plow to do a furrough deeper then about 10 inches.I have a Zane Thang which I have not disconnected .

I know that the spring on the top liknk can be adjusted, but I haven't messed with that yet.

Where do I go from here?

Thanks

Frank

If necessary, you can adjust your hydraulic lift by loosening the four bolts that hold the lift lever cover and sliding it fore or aft. Read the manual. Moving the cover to the front would lower the lift some, and back would raise it. But that might not be the problem, just a thought.

Frank there are a couple of things to check. First do you have the Zane Thang stop adjusted so the lower links will drop almost to the ground with the plow unhooked? It's possible Zane's Thang needs to be moved a little. Second, if your shears are dull/worn down you may not be getting enough "suck" and you might have to replace them or heat and move the point angle down a skosh. A lot of the old plows were "sharpened" that way. Ten inches isn't to bad for depth by the way, but that plow should bury itself when you shove the lever down. I plowed with my Zane Thang hooked up this spring and thought it worked well that way. It defeats the purpose of the saftey system built in to keep the front of the tractor from coming up if you hit an obstacle, but I like to keep my hand on the lever when I plow anyway. Good luck! Wes
