I'M A NEW OWNER TO A 9N TRACTOR AND HAVE HEARD FROM MANY PEOPLE THERE IS A ROLLOVER HAZARD. IS THERE AN AFTERMARKET ROLL BAR AVAILABLE FOR THIS TRACTOR, OR AM I TOO CONCERNED OVER SOMETHING I SHOULD'NT BE?

Go to one of the dirt track stock car races on a Sat. night this spring. Ask around in the pits, who bends up their roll bars. Back when I used to do it, I had dozens of roll hoops that didnt quite fit the car, sitting in a pile behind the shop. If you want it fit to the tractor, you could figure on about $100 for a nice looking custom cage. Nice to try to keep the $ in your comunity, and the guys bending it would get a kick out of doing it. VERY easy with no roof to deal with!

Check out the archives on this site and you will find lots of info on roll bars, do a search for ROPS. I contacted my Massey Ferguson dealer about ROPS for my TAE 20 and he told me that the oldest tractor he can get it for is the MF 35. I have seen some lately that are being made by manufacturers that specialize in ROPS and cabs, you may want to check out Laurin Manufacturing, they are located in Quebec and can make you a ROPS for anything. I had them make one for my David Brown 990. If you are careful you should be OK but remember that these little tractors are not meant for pulling heavy loads from the 3 point hitch drawbar. Do not use your tractor as a log skidder or to pull an old drag plow. Harry Ferguson invented the 3 point hitch because of all the accidents that happened with some of the older implements that were pulled from the drawbar.

Mike, It's really easy to get a plow or draw caught in some stubborn material and your tractor will just dump you over on your head before you can get your foot on the clutch. I just keep my hand on the shift lever and jam it out of gear if I'm feeling the front end getting off the ground, Doesn't happen much since my clutch is oily from a leaky rear main seal.

I wrecked the looks of my otherwise 100% stock 1950 TO-20 by having a custom made roll bar put on it. I did it because it isn't a show tractor: I work it. I nearly tipped it once or twice and neither time was I being reckless nor was I on much of a hill.

Lots of experienced old farmers get killed every year. ROPS is really a good idea. Yeah, it does look bad too.
