Help!
My clutch won't disengage on my 1951 TO-20. I have gone by the spec's for freeplay and even removed the steering box so I could see if anything appears broken. Everthing seems fine butit still acts as if the clutch is engaged.

It happend when I got a bad case of the dumb a**.
I was going downhill in high gear (TO-20 only has two forward speeds) and I thought I would like to go a little faster. I stayed in 2nd and steped on the clutch, after about 45 seconds I heard a niose from the clutch area and----- you know the rest of the story. When the stearing box was removed and you pressed the clutch lever, you could see the clutch was moving. ????? ????? ?
It appears that I am just an novice, dosen't it?
Thanks, Randy

You might have to split the tractor to find out what is wrong. Only thing I can think of is clutch linings came loose and got doubled up in one spot so it won't release correctly. Something might have happened to the pressure plate possibly. How fast were you going in second gear when the noise appeared? If you were going say 16mph your disk would be rotating at over 7,500 rpm which may be too much. Please post the results when you figure it out.

Thank you Duner, you hit it on the head. My top speed was about 12 or 13. The clutch needed relining anyway and I needed to experiance the thrill of splitting a tractor (neet). I also repaired the trans. and lift. Not too much $$$ involved. Again I thank you,

If this came about all of a sudden after sitting for a period of time maybe the clutch plate is rusted to the flywheel. Some people break the clutch plate loose by driving in third or fourth gear and applying the brake. The trick is starting the tractor and getting up to 3rd or 4th gear with out doing a mischief to yourself or others. You might check the archives here and the Ford 9,2,8N board. Good luck!
