I own a 1950 Ferguson TEA20 that has developed a problem. It starts OK but it back fires constantly. Can anyone tell me what causes a back fire and what to do to solve the problem? Any suggestions or help will be appreciated. Please email your answers. Many thanks to all who reply.

Is it backfiring, or missing? If it is at a constant rate, my guess is something like the electrics for one cylinder or wrong timing. If it is all over the place, try the fuel line. To test it, run it for a bit to get used to it's sound, then stop it, blow compressed air up the fuel line at the carb, and start it again, try low rev's, does it run any better? If so, flush the tank with petrol to remove whatever gunk could be there, check the sediment bowl, and blow out the fuel pipe. Hope this helps!

Hi Ross

It could be the fiering order thats wrong, it should be like this i think..... .

on the distrubutor, the secuence should be:
1 2
3 4
The rotor turns counter clock wise, and the fiering order is 1 3 4 2, so then it should be right..
